Anyone want some stock?

Thu Mar 6, 2008, 8:52 PM
Howdy, Cats:

Well, it looks like it is time to get the ball rolling once again. There are a couple of fun things in the works, but for today at least let's take them one at a time. The first is this:

I'm changing my policy on requests in that, for the foreseeable future, I will ONLY be doing requests.

There's only one caveat (and I guess it may not be a small one); you have to spark my imagination. You have to wow and challenge me. You have to make me dig your concept as much as you dig it. No small feat, I know, but those are the table stakes.

You can try to do that any way you like; send a note, use your previous work, hit me on Skype or AIM (jademacalla on both, but I prefer Skype and I'm cool with voice or video), accost me in an elevator and pretend I'm a venture capitalist. Whatever works; the more creative the better.

As you might imagine, time is a precious commodity these days, so I won't be able to accept every request (that's why the "Wow factor" is important) - but if you hook me, and we book it, I'll do everything I can to get you the stock you are looking for (within the limits of my personal gear, costumes, weaponry, schedule, and silly-@$$ facial expressions, of course ;-) ).

This is an experiment, and like all cool experiments it may crash and burn; but let's have some fun giving it a shot. Make a good pitch and let's see what we can create together.

A Great Example
The following comes from that extremely talented compositor, *Dragon-Kiss. This is a great example of a solid pitch. It tells me in good detail what you are looking for, provides references, and, in this case, it creates a little mystery about what the project is all about.

From :icondragon-kiss:
I would like to place a stock order. I need a handyman/construction worker. I'm trying to make one but the angles don’t match because its a back shot. Let me break this down.

Assume that you hammered a nail on the wall accidentally knocking the entire wall down and you see something you shouldn’t.

I need a body angle like this shot.

An embarrassed expression on your face. One hand on your mouth like the other holding a hammer (not behind you back). Your head turned right looking at another shocked employee who is right next to you.

Outfit.

Work gloves, Shirt (anything that you would normally have on while working on the house). Jeans, If you have a work belt that would be nice and boot like shoes. Should you have those plastic hats construction workers have use that too.

More soon,
Jade

I know that you've done a lot of subjects similar to this, but DA is really lacking a decent S.W.A.T. stock... Like the full body armor, helmet on/off type of thing.

Hmmmm.... what else. Its not often that someone as talented as you opens up completely for stock suggestions.

If I think of something, I'll post it!

Oooh, you've got me interested. Now its my turn to get you interested. Hard to do, considering what you've done in the past.

Well, I can always use sword stocks, so long as the swords have handguards that can easily be taken out or simply aren't there. Action sword stocks are really good, don't get too many of those, most of them are simply having the sword up in a guard or whatnot.

I'm planning some future stuff around 'faceless soldiers', which would have similar armor/uniforms, masks, the like. In that case, it'd be good to have stock pictures that complement each other. For example, if I could cut some out and put them all in the same picture, and have it look good, that would be very appealing for stock. Aiming at the same point, whatever.

I dunno, if I like what you do (if you do it), and you get enough of the similars up, I might even do a big 'war', either between two groups of soldiers, or between sword wielders and gun wielders, ect.

Sounds good. Make a strong pitch if you come up with something.

Ah, so this is the secret project then hm? Iiiinteresting.

I get the feeling you might be getting one of those video films from Andy again in that case from the mysterious Lady Z. Now if only I could get in touch with that dashingly pretty PA of hers that was on the video last time.

Ever think about doing something with movement? Many action scenes involve things on moving vehicles. Granted, you wouldn't need to actually jump on a moving bus and start shooting photos, that would be ridiculously dangerous. But, you happen to be good at conveying the scene in the stock you put out. Just saying, the closest thing I recall seeing in your gallery like this is the epic pose atop the tricycle.

I'll consider putting together a pitch for you some time soon. I've been itching to send you a few ideas but never really had the time to refine the ideas out.

We may be in contact soon ;)

I'm not really in need of any stock at the moment, but I'd find it awesome if you did some amusing impossible breakdancing things.

I haven't seen much of anything in the way of one-one swordplay....

I'm thinkin' Highlander style, various styles and techniques pit against one another. Blocks, parries, deflections, thrusts, etc...Yeah, it'd probably require a second model though...if you can swing that though, that would be awesome.
