Your favourite 'Dangerous Character'?

Thu Feb 26, 2009, 5:48 PM
Hi Cats!

It's time for the next installment of "You Tell Us About Something That Is Dangerously Cool. This time we'd like to hear about your favourite kick-@$$, action-packed, steel-eyed, bad-to-the-bone Dangerously Cool fictional character. This one can be from the world of film, comics, literature, or any other fictional medium.

I shall lead off with the character who is perhaps my all time favourite bad-@$$; Molly, from William Gibson's Sprawl Series (Neuromancer, Mona Lisa Overdrive, and the short story Johnnie Mnemonic).

Bodyguard, mercenary, fighter, business woman; Molly is the perfect combination of danger (jazzed-up nervous system, scalpel blades that can be extruded from beneath her fingernails, vision-enhancing glasses surgically inset over her eyes), smarts, wit, and style. She was one of the first really strong, tough, and well-written female characters that I ran into in my youth and she's still cool all these decades later.

Now let's hear about yours...

-----------------------------------------------

About ][ Dangerously Cool

Guns, blades, crazy people, fast vehicles, dangerous places; what else?

Whether you are an artist who has an interest in these things solely for the sake of your art or you are a nut who enjoys edgy stuff first hand, I wanted to let you know about a brand new project.

It's a news/lifestyle web journal and web-based video program (along with a community site) called 'Dangerously Cool' [link] and it deals only with stuff that fits that general description; weapons, fast vehicles, crazy people, training, places that your mom wouldn't want you to visit - you get the idea.

So far, it is a written web journal, but we are already in production on the new show.

The main difference between ][DC (as we call it, or just ][ ) and DS2 is that where DS2 is broader and promotes doing all sorts of interesting stuff, ][DC is very specifically focused on cool stuff with an edge.

Looking forward to seeing you over there, if you are so inclined. And I would love to hear your ideas for future posts and shows.

More soon. Be Well.
Jade

Jade's Stock Photo Request Policy:
----------------------------------------
As of March 2008, the only stock photos I will produce will be requests. If you need something specific for a project, I'd love to hear your pitch. To clarify, I'm not looking for ideas (I've got plenty of those), I am interested in collaborating with serious artists who need specific images or references. Please see this journal entry for complete details: [link]

Richard B. Riddick, hands down. I mean, what's not to love about a convicted murderer with a price on his head, who can see in the dark, move like a ghost, took on a race of carnivorous aliens pretty much single-handedly, and later became the ruler of his own super army of undead?

He's all siren beauty and casual cruelty, but most of all he's mine.

It's hard to pick a fictional character because I usually find that I love all the dangerous characters that some actors play. For example Steven Segal - who else can kill a man with a credit card?

My absolute favourite though has to be Clint Eastwood. The man just looks lethal no matter his role and no matter his age! His latest movie I haven't even seen but you know he's kick-ass!

Hmm.. What about Bob Lee Swagger, from Shooter? Amazing sniper rifles, a man with a class A aim. The end of that movie was kick butt awesome ;)

And since most everyone loves James Bond, have to mention him, too :XD: Who doesn't love a suave spy with all the cool gadgets?

I'll let you know if someone I can think of will totally fit the bill in my eyes. Right now I'm thinking Wolverine form X-man or Light Yagami from Death Note (but Light shouldn't count because the story didn't have too much action and Light was more villain protagonist).

Riddick is a a favorite of mine too, but my heart belongs to another: Vlad Taltos courtesy of author Steven Brust's literary genius.:blowkiss:

Vlad Taltos is a deadly assassin :ninja:, a mobster, a Sorcerer, a lover (briefly), a father (recently), a fugitive, a wise-ass, and extremely luck to be alive considering all the complicated politics and plots he is usually embroiled in (up to his neck).

Hm, I'm not sure if he's my favourite (heh, I can't really think of a favourite), but Michael Weston from Burn Notice is pretty neat. Kinda' reminds me of you. =p

Hmm. I don't know--requires some more thought. For right at this verymoment I will go with Tristan from the latest movie version of King Arthur with Clive Owen.

You're a great one for logic. I'm a great one for rushing in where angels fear to tread. We are both extremists. Reality has brought us somewhere in-between.

Oh crap, Olukemi beat me to it with Riddick.

I'll have to go with Ronon Dex, then. Feral with a dangerous temper, a gun that never fails to take out the bad guys, and enough ass-kicking attitude to make the rest of the team of Marines look like a bunch of sissies. He is a little prettier than Riddick, but it might be the hair. ;)
