Anime Human Chess: 14th Fight Posted

Tue Aug 25, 2009, 5:49 PM
Hey, Cats!

Fight #16 between Gally (Battle Angel Alita) and San (Princess Mononoke); Yes, the weapon Gally is using really is what you think it is. Amazing! What a great fight; an excellent example of two very differnt styles (and characters and weapons) and how beautiful it can be when those contrasts clash together.

Here's the thumb:

Please be sure to watch the DivX version here on dA. And here are some alternative files, minimally compressed and higher-res: [link] (or here [link] for a slightly larger view and an easy to use listing of all the fights to date).

Thanks for watchin', and be sure to throw some love at all these fantastic stage combatants.

More soon.

------------------------------------------

That's right, comrades, the Original Anime Human Chess Match has just completed their 6th year at this past weekend's Metrocon Anime Convention. DJINN Productions was thrilled to be able to shoot the show again this year and once again we will be doing multi-camera edits of each of the fights.

The first fight - Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia) vs Gorobei Katayama (Samurai 7) - will be posted in the next day or two, but to get everyone in the mood we've posted the entire Introduction (about 23 minutes) at a special area on my site: [link] . (or click on the image)

Check it out and try to guess who is going to beat the heck out of whom...

As usual, I have no idea who any of these characters are, but I do know that the actors who play them are some of the best freakin' stage combatants that I've had the honor to know. Get ready, 'cause this year's show kicks some serious ass.

More soon.

PS. It probably goes without saying, but we will be extremely busy over the next several weeks. First order of business, now that the actual shooting is over, is sending out the prizes from the contest and lots of editing. Thanks in advance for your understanding if we are a little slow in responding to notes and such.

Jade's Stock Photo Request Policy:
----------------------------------------
As of March 2008, the only stock photos I will produce will be requests. If you need something specific for a project, I'd love to hear your pitch. To clarify, I'm not looking for ideas (I've got plenty of those), I am interested in collaborating with serious artists who need specific images or references. Please see this journal entry for complete details: [link]

Jade's Stock Usage Boilerplate
-----------------------------------
The rule of thumb with my stock is: (Almost) No Rules. Do whatever non-commercial thing you want with them. If you need them to help you make a little dough that's great, just contact me so we can work something out. Thank you.

I was shrieking with laughter when the Mortal Kombat pair came out and did their little bouncy fighting stance. :D I know absolutely zero about anime, but these are brilliantly done. Reminds me of watching professional wrestling as a young'un, when it was more clever patter and showmanship than soap opera. The actors are so into their characters - the walk, the voice, everything!
I was wondering why you've been so quiet this week - now I see. :)

Yay, videos! :3 I'm so excited to see these~ I was on Masquerade cast this year, so I didn't get to see the fights all the time. I'm really, really looking forward to the videos! I only got to see the show Saturday - Sunday I was running around the con working after a little cameo (the disembodied voice of one Sophia Forrester).

I can't wait to see your great work with the chess match~

I was very surprised that Cedric was not fighting for Ashram's side. He's got the fighting spirit!!!!

Hey there! Long time since we've heard from you. Hope you have been well. Looks like we've got good coverage of the Chess and we also shot the Masquerade - so we'll be putting that together as well.

The bouncy fighting stance was one of the few 'in jokes' that I caught, so I liked that one as well. I agree, these actors are so good that you actually get a feel for the characters, even if, like me, know know very little about what is going on. :D

More soon.

PS. Hope you have been well.
