First, thanks to everyone who expressed an interest in this contest (a surprising number of you) and a super big thanks to all you folks you submitted entries. For those of you who did not enter, the specific topic of this contest was: The Walt Disney corporation. The entries could have been about any aspect of the Disney empire. Many of you will no doubt have picked up on the topic from this (not so subtle) image hint:
It is no exaggeration to say that each of the entries was very creative and compelling. Some were a little supernatural, others were heavy on the corporate intrigue, and a few were downright spooky in how well they melded fact and (plausible) fantasy. So a big round of hat tipping to everyone who entered.
It was very, very hard to pick the winner for this one, but...
The winner is:
She did such an incredible job of weaving the real with the fabricated that we actually spent a fair amount of time researching to see if any of the stuff she created had already been picked up on by the folks who obsess over such things. Interestingly, they hadn't (which raises some new questions, doesn't it? ), but no doubt it will only be a matter of time before they do. . Poignant, plausible, very well thought out, and true to the spirit of the topic; Great Job!
For sheer originality in both content and presentation. This cat came up with a compelling premise and then dished it out in an extremely cool format.
Since all the entries were submitted as private notes, we'll leave it to the individual entrants whether they want to post their entries in their galleries. They are certainly welcome to, if they like.
This contest was just the first in a series of images, contests, puzzles, games, and stories related to a new project called Free Agent, which follows the exploits of a hands-on generalist named Val. So stay tuned, because the next contest will be announced within...72 hours.
- Are you too creative for your own good?
- Do you dig pop culture, urban legends, and modern myth?
- Can you think outside the box while holding a solid line of realism and plausibility?
- Would you like a shot at winning a 3-month subscription?
If you answered YES to at least 83% of those questions then let's go.
If you are interested just send me a note letting me know that you want to enter. You will be asked to CREATE A BRAND NEW URBAN LEGEND about a modern pop culture icon (I'll tell you which one when you enter). The urban legend can be as crazy as you like, but it must be grounded in reality (else it would not have any 'legs' as a viable and entertaining urban legend, now would it?); the more plausibly outlandish, the better. Judging will be based on creativity, originality, and underlying believability. Once you enter the contest and receive your topic you can submit as many entries as you like. The entries should be in the form of a written description of the urban legend / myth / rumor you construct - the more detailed the better.
Note: You must create a new urban legend, not just tell me about a really cool one you have previously heard about.
Deadline for Submitting Entries: 11/18/11 (Friday), 12:00 midnight PST
This deadline is fixed, so if you are interested in entering let me know ASAP so I can give you the details.
Winning Entry: The winning entry will receive a 3-month subscription to dA and I will tell everyone how cool you are in my journal.
Honourable Mentions: Depending on interest, there may be some Honourable Mentions, as well. If so, people who receive these will most likely have the option of receiving a small print in the mail.

Yes, this is obliquely related to the project alluded to at the beginning of this video:
Jade's Stock Photo Request Policy:
As of March 2008, the only stock photos I will produce will be collaborations. If you need something specific for a project, I'd love to hear your pitch. To clarify, I'm not looking for ideas (I've got plenty of those), I am interested in collaborating with serious artists who need specific images or references. Please see this journal entry for complete details: jademacalla.deviantart.com/jou…
Jade's Stock Usage Boilerplate
The rule of thumb with my stock is: (Almost) No Rules. Do whatever non-commercial thing you want with them. If you need them to help you make a little dough that's great, just contact me so we can work something out. Thank you.

So THIS is what I was forgetting!!! (>.<) Dammit! Oh well, congrats to the winners!
Oh wow! I'm honored! Thanks a lot for the mention, mate!
Congratulations to the winner!
Congrats to the winners! Even though I entered, real life caught on and I was unable to do it. Looking forward to the rest of the project!
I hope the winners post their ideas. I'm rather curious now.
What the heck. I'll give it a shot.
Wow, only a week lest? I'm still interested though!
Having just seen your ID page, I think you will be happy when you see the topic.
Only a week left? Heck, there was only a week when it started! Send me a note and I'll get you the additional details.
Haha, I just realized that it's starting today, my bad. XD I'm just a little nervous 'cause sometimes I'm slow when it comes to finishing complicated projects. And even though it's a written thing it still takes some serious thinking to make it as original as possible!
I will note you right away.
I will note you right away.
This sounds like a lot of fun! What do you mean by 'modern pop culture icon', though? Does that specifically mean one current trendy person? How 'modern' is 'modern'? Are all these questions and more already part of "the details"?
